About
Juan comes from Bariloche, Argentina, a small town in the Patagonia region. He grew up surrounded by mountains and lakes, hence his love for nature and the outdoors.
After a year in the National University of Comahue, he was admitted into the Balseiro Institute, a renowned argentinian institution where he obtained his degree as a Mechanical Engineer in 2016. He did his final project on the design of a fatigue – creep characterization device, in the Mechanical Characterization Lab of the Metal Physics Group – Bariloche’s Atomic Center under the supervision of Dr. Alejandro Yawny. Preliminary results of the final graduate project were extremely promising, and so he continued working on it during a Master thesis.
Having achieved his engineering degree, Juan was able to obtain an internship at the Metal Physics Group. This allowed him to continue with his Master’s degree, while working on new projects involving shape memory alloys, specially NiTi. During this time, he developed a deep interest for these materials and its applications to medicine, aerospace and HVAC systems.
In 2019, Juan was able to obtain his Master of Engineering degree, and in 2021 he was incorporated to the Mechanical Characterization Lab as a Lab Analyst. He also started teaching courses of Classical Mechanics and Heat and Mass Transfer at Balseiro Institute. This marked Juan’s professional and personal growth, finding great joy in teaching and advising in undergraduate theses. In doing so, he discovered the value of sharing knowledge and collaborative work.
