Maja Jønck Hjuler

About

Maja has earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s of Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark, graduating in 2024. With a BSc. in Physics and Nanotechnology, she has extensive experience in data collection and developing models based on data analysis. Motivated by a strong interest in human interaction with technology, she has pursued a master’s degree in Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, which has led her to research the use of general language models for diverse applications.

In her PhD project, Maja will explore the potential of emerging AI models to enhance Augmentative and Alternative Communication methods tailored to the unique competencies, needs, and preferences of individuals with intellectual disabilities. The aim is to create multimodal models – including text, images, pictograms, etc. – to implement in personalized communication aids.

Maja is motivated by a genuine curiosity and a love for learning, which naturally led her to pursue research. She enjoys asking questions, exploring new ideas, and finding creative ways to solve complex problems. Being part of an international research community and working on projects that can make a real difference inspires her the most.

interests

Outside of her research, Maja enjoys being physically active with different sports, such as skiing or rock climbing. Reading and engaging in arts and craft projects are also some of her favourite pastime activities.
