Dr. Rita Baddour-Hadjean

Rita BADDOUR-HADJEAN is director of research at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) at the Paris East Institute of Chemistry and Materials (ICMPE), Paris East Créteil University (UPEC), Thiais, France.

Rita Baddour-Hadjean received a chemical engineer diploma from the National School of Chemistry of Paris (ENSCP) in 1988. Then, she obtained her Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry from Université Pierre et Marie Curie-Paris VI in 1991, researching on the electrochemical and structural properties of sol-gel vanadium oxides usable as positive electrodes in lithium batteries. In 1992, she joined the CNRS as researcher to study proton dynamics on the ionic conduction mechanism of various materials, using Inelastic Neutron Scattering in combination with other vibrational techniques such as infrared and Raman spectroscopy. Since 2000, using Raman microspectrometry, she focuses on the study of electrode materials for batteries. She earned the Habilitation qualification (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie- Paris VI in 2004 and then joined the group of Electrochemistry and Spectroscopy of Materials at the Paris East Institute of Chemistry and Materials (ICMPE), Thiais, France. Since 2018, she’s the head of the Electrochemical Energy Storage: M-ion Batteries (BATTion) group.

Her current research interests include the study of the structure-electrochemistry relationships of positive and negative electrode materials for lithium ion batteries and next generations. By using a combination of short range (Raman) and long range (XRD) techniques, a detailed structural picture of the electrode materials under operation can be provided. This kind of investigation provides a better understanding of the electrochemical mechanisms and performances and provides guidance for improvements in terms of energy density, specific capacity and cycle life.
