Carlo Andrea Venturini
About
Carlo is a Ph.D. student with a focus in computational mechanics, machine learning, and vibro-acoustics. He was born in Genoa, Italy, and developed a strong interest in mathematics and physics from a young age, which led to his passion for applying mathematics to real-life problems. Also, Carlo has always been passionate about travelling and discovering new cultures and languages. This brought him to pursue a double Master’s degree in Mathematical Engineering – Computational Science and Computational Learning at Politecnico di Milano and Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon. During his studies, he focused on numerical analysis, machine learning, mathematical modelling and optimal control problems, earning a Research Studentship from FCT to develop reduced-order modelling techniques to approximate the solution of partial differential equations in the context of fluid dynamics.
His Ph.D. research investigates Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) for vibro-acoustic modelling, aiming to improve digital twins and virtual prototyping for predicting noise and vibration in complex mechanical structures. His work seeks to develop efficient and generalizable models that address the challenges faced by classical numerical methods, particularly at mid-to-high frequencies and under uncertainty conditions.
Carlo’s academic journey has taken him across Italy, Portugal, and France, building his appreciation for international collaborations and interdisciplinary research. He is multilingual, fluent in Italian and English, with proficiency in Portuguese and French.
With a strong foundation in numerical modelling and computational simulations, Carlo is excited to contribute to advancements in vibro-acoustic engineering and computational methods, filling the gap between traditional numerical techniques and modern data-driven approaches.
Interests
Carlo’s research interests are related to Numerical analysis, Mathematical Modelling, Machine Learning, Optimal Control Problems, Computational mechanics, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
In his free time Carlo enjoys practising sports such as surfing, snowboarding, and volleyball, as well as exploring new cultures through travel. He is also deeply passionate about nature and animals, and owner of a dog that travels with him wherever he goes.
