Huixin (Luna) Wu
ABOUT
Huixin (Luna) Wu is from Xi’an, one of China’s oldest cities, rich with historical sites. She got her bachelor’s degree of economics from the University of Liverpool and a master’s degree of environmental economics and policy from Imperial College London in the UK. Over this time, she developed a deep interest in the intersection of economics and marine conservation, working on various research projects that focused on promoting sustainable fisheries and marine resource management.
Her research experience spans biodiversity conservation, where she provided economic and policy recommendations to support sustainable practices in the fisheries sector. These opportunities enhanced her data analysis and policy evaluation skills, as well as her ability to collaborate with local communities and stakeholders. For her master’s thesis, Huixin focused on salmon lice management in Norway, Scotland, and Chile, using qualitative methods to study the sustainability of freshwater farming. This research deepened her understanding of balancing economic and environmental concerns in fisheries.
She is now embarking on her next journey at IFREMER in Brest and the University of Tasmania, where her research will focus on analysing the complex interactions between offshore wind energy development and fishing activities, with an emphasis on cumulative impacts and spatial crowding.
