Isa B. I. Helal

EC Lyon and QUT

About

Isa is a Ph.D. student with a passion for tackling complex challenges in fluid dynamics and machine learning. Currently jointly enrolled in École Centrale de Lyon, France, and Queensland University of Technology, Australia, as part of the AUFRANDE program. He is pursuing his doctoral studies in a project titled “Soft Actor-Critic Reinforcement Learning for Turbulence Modeling in Dense Gas Flows.”
Isa’s academic journey began at the American University of Madaba, Jordan, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering after a five-year study program. His graduation project was focused on renewable energy systems and control theory. From there, he continued his pursuit of knowledge, completing his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Aarhus University in Denmark. His master’s thesis, titled “Incorporating Symmetries into the Sparse Identification of Nonlinear Dynamics for Fluid Systems,” marked a significant milestone in his academic life. He also worked as a research assistant investigating the sustainability, quality, and cost of infeed centerless grinding.
His academic achievements have been recognized with two scholarships covering his bachelor’s degree and one covering his master’s degree study expenses. These scholarships underscore his dedication to academic excellence and his commitment to advancing knowledge in his fields of interest.
As a Ph.D. candidate, Isa is fueled by the pursuit of innovative solutions to complex multidisciplinary problems, and he looks forward to contributing to the advancement of turbulence modeling and its applications in industrial contexts.

Interests

His research interests are Turbulence Modelling, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Reduced Order Modelling, Machine Learning, Control Theory and Applied Mathematics.

Isa enjoys cooking, painting, playing the guitar and going to music concerts.
