ABOUT

Uzoma Chukwuemeka Nworgu, from Imo State, Nigeria, holds a First-Class Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries from the University of Port Harcourt, where he graduated as the best in his department. Building on his passion for the climate and aquatic environment, he pursued a master’s degree in Climate Change and Marine Sciences at the Atlantic Technical University, Cabo Verde, under the prestigious WASCAL Scholarship funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. His master’s research focused on model representations of oceanic impacts on regional rainfall, resulting in a publication in a peer-reviewed journal (https://doi.org/10.1088/2752-5295/ad3a0e).

Uzoma’s professional journey reflects his desire to transform academic knowledge into real-world impact. Starting as a graduate assistant, he mentored students, honing his leadership and teaching skills. He later worked as a visiting researcher at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research, Germany, contributing to studies on ocean circulation and climate dynamics. These experiences strengthened his ability to bridge theory and application, laying a strong foundation for his future endeavours.

Committed to continuous growth, Uzoma has engaged in international training programs, including computational tools for climate science and high-resolution atmospheric modelling. He has shared his work at global conferences, such as the 2023 SOLAS Summer School, the Pan-American Meteorology Conference in Brazil, and the Ocean Science Meeting in New Orleans (both in 2024).

Beyond academia, he has a strong commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation. As part of the African delegation at the 2023 Ocean Youth Summit in Denmark, he joined global discussions on innovative solutions for ocean sustainability, demonstrating his dedication to collaborative action for a healthier planet.

With a solid academic background, versatile professional experience, and a passion for addressing environmental challenges, Uzoma is well-positioned to make meaningful contributions to the global climate science community.

Interests

Uzoma’s research interests are related to climate dynamics, climate modelling, paleoclimatology, ocean circulation, and ocean-atmosphere interactions.

In his spare time he enjoys listening to music and dancing. He also likes landscape photography, poetry, video games, and hanging out with friends.
