About

Didier Schwab is A. Professor in informatics, authorized to conduct researches (French HDR) and co-head of the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Augmentative and Alternative Communication.

Didier Schwab researches are focused on Speech and Natural Language processing. He has been strongly involved in the creation of software, computing tools and the constitution of free and open language resources for under resourced tasks and languages. In particular, he participated in the creation of the first self-supervised models for French that allow a refined representation of utterances (Flaubert for written French – since 2020 – and LeBenchmark for spoken French – since 2021). Among the applications of these tools are machine translation, automatic summarization, semantic analysis of discourse, and understanding & improving the communication of people who have difficulty expressing themselves through speech – allophones (who speak a foreign language) or people with disabilities.). He was PI of over 40 funded projects (20 > 100K€). He co-authored over 115 peer-reviewed articles and supervised about 20 postdoctoral fellows and PhD students.
