University of Savoy Mont Blanc

With 15,000 students, a rich offer of multidisciplinary training and 19 internationally recognized research laboratories, the Université Savoie Mont Blanc is an institution on a human scale that combines proximity with its territories and a wide opening to Europe and the world.

PhD thesis will be realized at the Solar Academy Graduate School which is jointly managed with the CNRS and the CEA. The Université Savoie Mont Blanc – Graduate School Solar Academy as part of the National Institute of Solar Energy combines practice and theory in the areas of solar and building physics, scientific computing and data analysis, material science, business, law, sociology architecture and urban planning. The outstanding students in this graduate school will acquire a solid background in various topics in solar energy, ranging from fundamental to applied sciences, allowing them to build a successful career in R&D sectors. The Solar Academy Graduate School is to become a national and international leader in scientific research, engineering, business, economy and law for a model of low-carbon distributed generation and consumption. Central to its organization is a multidisciplinary approach to enable the large- scale utilization of the solar energy resource. The Graduate School hosts a cross-border Chair of Innovation on Energy Efficiency jointly supported by USMB, hes-hepia and University of Geneva partners of the project.

The LOCIE, UMR 5271, is one of the laboratory of the Solar Academy Graduate School. It is a joint research unit of the University of Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) and the CNRS working in engineering and systems sciences, with a single focus on sustainable building and energy. LOCIE is also an upstream research laboratory of the National Institute of Solar Energy (INES) located on the Savoie Technolac campus. Research on sustainable energy, especially thermal energy, is one of the areas of excellence of LOCIE. This is approached from an experimental and numerical point of view and concerns in particular the use and integration of solar energy.

USMB offers a 36-months full-time work contract (with the option to extend up to a maximum of 42 months).

In order to register for a doctorate, the applicant must have a French research Master’s degree or an equivalent diploma.
